IWONA ABRAHAM (She/Her)

MFT GRADUATE STUDENT INTERN

Though born in India, my earliest childhood memories are living in Taiwan up until my mother and I immigrated to French Canada. Before starting college, I had attended 15 different schools and was constantly navigating transitions and questions of identity and belonging. This experience gave me empathy for teenagers and young adults who are asking these same questions.

Regardless of what stage of life you are in, these themes of identity and transition are universal. I hold a deep respect for cultural identity, transition, and the complexity of being caught between worlds. I am passionate about supporting youth, immigrants and immigrant families, as well as anyone navigating a sense of belonging and community.

In our work together, I practice from a systemic lens, meaning I see you within the influence of your relationships, history, and environment. I incorporate family of origin work to understand the intergenerational influences that have helped shape you into the person you are today. My therapeutic stance is holistic and integrates the biopsychosocial-spiritual model.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada with the intent to go to med school. However, while I was focused on medicine, I could not help but notice stories quietly unfolding around me–those in my community navigating anxiety, grief, faith, family expectations, cultural norms, and relational strain. These stories ultimately drew me away from a medical lens to a more relational–and in my view–holistic lens.

I am currently a student at Seattle Pacific University pursuing my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. It would be my privilege to be alongside you as you navigate your journey. When I’m not in the therapy room, you can find me walking the different neighborhoods of Seattle and talking during movies.
