FRANK ZHOU (He/Him)

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK INTERN THERAPIST

I was born and raised in Silicon Valley of the Bay Area, California. While initially on track to become a software engineer, I realized that a job in tech was not a good fit for me, and after experiencing the effects of high academic pressure and stress I instead turned towards a career in mental health.

I grew up in online spaces, browsing the web and playing online video games since I was four. Although I was not the only one, I still felt the isolation and stigma around being seen as an introverted and nerdy gamer. Self-esteem and social anxiety are challenges that I have spent my life overcoming. Learning to see myself in a healthy way relative to others was always a struggle, but now it is one of my greatest skills, and it is one that I love to share with others. Although I still love gaming, I now spend most of my free time dancing with others, teaching dance classes, and performing on stage: Things that I never thought I would be capable of.

Personal narrative and identity are core to my understanding of growth and mental wellness. Drawing on my own life experiences, I am extremely excited to help people build a strong sense of personal identity, and to identify and overcome their personal challenges. I am particularly interested in working with people of color, and individuals who are struggling with depression and anxiety. In my eyes, therapy is about healing, growth, understanding the self, and empowerment; and my goal is to be there to support and help you find your way through it all.

I am currently pursuing my Masters in Social Work at the UW and acquired a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Washington. Grounded in evidence-based research, I love to talk about the underlying technical reasons why we experience things psychologically.
